Abstract
2-substituted benzothiazoles and their derivatives have attracted much attention of chemicals and pharmacologists because of their broad spectrum biological activities and applications.2-Mercaptobenzothiazole,the first known benzothiazole derivative,was found to be effective antifungal agent.Thus the conjugation of the benzothiazole ring with amino acids could afford anew interesting series of compounds with modified antifungal activity.the first part of this investigation deals with the synthesis of some2-benzothiazolylthioacetyl amino acid and peptide derivatives(schemes1 and 2).The starting material 2-benzothiazolylthioacetyl hydraide[1] was prepared by aliterature method i.e alkylation of2-mercapto-benzothiazole(MBT) with ethyl chloroacetate in the presence of anhydrous potassium carbonate,followed by refluxing the resulting ester with hydrazine hydrate in ethanol.
