Abstract
The present investigation deals the use of (E)-3-(benzo[d][1,3]dioxol-5-yl)-2-cyanoacryloyl chloride (3) in synthesis of some new acrylamids, acrylates, thioacrylates and heterocyclic systems with expected antibacterial activities. Also, to study the effect of the 2-cyano group on the reactivity and stability of C2-C3 double bond towards different strong and weak nucleophiles.
Condensation of piperonal with ethyl cyanoacetate in the presence of piperidine, afforded (E)-ethyl 3-(benzo[d]-[1,3] dioxol-5-yl)-2-cyanoacrylate (1). Hydrolysis of 1 in alcoholic sodium hydroxide solution gave the corresponding acid 2, which upon refluxing with thionyl chloride yielded the new acid chloride 3 in good yield (Scheme 1).
