Abstract

Existentialism is a philosophy of life. Actually, it IS a
philosophy of existence and being. Reading existentialism and assimilating the different aspects it underlies concerning the existence of man is of great importance for every one to know what type of personality he is. It calls for every person to make use of the human faculty of thinking for living a life of his own. In other words, readers of existentialism realize that as human beings they already have the power to actualize their own selves and essence by asking themselves questions that would help them decide the type of personality they are or wish to be. Actually, it is a step towards self-discovery and awareness.
Existentialism enlightens the reader not only of himself but of the world around him as well. It is a means of understanding the relationship between the individual and the community. Nothing remains fixed in life. Life is full of situations that demand making choices and decisions. Existentialism calls for making free choices according to one’s own needs and committing to the consequences of such choices. Human beings are to create reality for themselves by charting the directions of their lives and accepting responsibility for their choices. Of course, one’s creation of the values and truths by which he wishes to live means creating a new scif or existence.
