Abstract

The proposed study aimed at serving the following main objectives:
.Investigating the relationship between managers’ emotional intelligence and their performance.
•Investigating the relationship between EI components and performance.
•Identifying the essential emotional competencies required for superior performance in various departments/areas of specialization.
•Comparing self-assessments versus others’ assessments, and testing for differences among the two.The broad objective of this research was to examine the relationship between managers’ Emotional Intelligence and their performance ratings in a multinational operating in Egypt. In addressing this objective, the selected organization was chosen as the research context, particularly due to the fact that it represented a good setting for the study. Performance appraisals occurred on a regular annual basis in the company and employees were already familiar with 360 degree appraisals.
In terms of this research, emotional intelligence and performance were discussed in terms of the research context. In an effort to investigate the objectives of the research, four specific research hypotheses were generated. Employee performance was identified as the dependent variable, and emotional intelligence as the independent variable.
The general methodology consisted of the use of two instruments. The ECI was used to collect information about emotional intelligence and the organization’s annual performance appraisal system was used to assess managers’ performance. The data was analyzed using correlation analysis and the Mann-Whitney test.
