Abstract Allergic rhinitis is a symptom complex resulting from exposure to a specific antigen. Its prevelance may amount up to 15% of the total population in some counteries and so it is one of the commonly encountered conditions in the practice of otolaryng- ology. Steroids therapy either via t0pical application or systemic administeration is considered a benefi- cial symptomatic treatment especially in long standing resistant cases. Many works had been done to study the beneficial effects of steroid therapy in allergic rhini tis especially from the clinical points of view, but there were very few studies to clarify the effects of steroids on the secretory immunoglobulins, namely IgE which mediates the allergic reaction and IgA which is responsible for the local immunity. The present work was conducted on twenty patients suffering from nasal allergy. They were subjected for detailed and thorough analysis of their complaints, full oto-rhinological examination, radiological examination of paranasal sinuses and cytological examination of nasal secretions for detection of nasal eosinophilia • |
