Abstract The urging need for detailed studies on the phosphorites of the Nile Valley, especially from the structural and sedimentational points of views, led the writer to carry out a regional study on the Qena-Idfu region as well as a detailed study in the Sharawna-Mahamid district. The lithostratigraphic units and the structural outline of te qena-Idfu region were regionally studied particularly along the three roads crossing the eastern Desert, the Qena-Safaga. Qena-Quseir, and the Idfu Marsa Alam roads, as well as the road between Qena and Silwa, along the Cairo-Aswan road. The Sharawna-mahamid district was geologically mapped and was the subject of detailed geomorphological, structural and sedimntational studies with special emphasis on the phosphorite deposits in the district. |
