Abstract The objective of the present study is investigated through the natural radioactivity, dose rate and the environmental impacts of some kaolin and bauxitic rock materials, Sinai, Egypt. The geological aspects of kaolin samples are concerned in seven localities named El Tih Plateau, El Tih I (W.El Mysina), El Tih II(W.Ras Gharam), Gabal Mussaba Salama, Gabal El Dehessa, Wadi El Shallal, El Esila. Gibbsite samples were collected from four localities named Talet Seleim, W.Naseib, West Abu Thor and EL Gor. The purposes are achieved through several radiometric, mineralogical and geochemical studies. This study contains four chapters in addition to Arabic and English Abstracts and references. Chapter one presents general aspects of kaolin and gibbsite rocks, geological setting of the studied localities and pervious work in this felid. Chapter two and three presented detailed information about the measuring, experimental technique, physical concepts and related equations in the present work. Chapter four explained in details the results which obtained from radiometric and geochemical analyses and the radiation hazard parameters (Raeq, Hex, Hin, absorbed dose, the annual effective dose and level index ”Iγ”) and compared with the international recommended limits. Finally the conclusions are as follows:- 1- Kaolin samples: - the activity ranged between UDL and 453.58 Bq/kg with average 79.27 Bq/kg for 238U, between 1.62 and 82.66 Bq/kg with average 42.49 Bq/kg for 232Th and between 2.99 and 659.56 Bq/kg with average 56.85 Bq/kg for 40K. The chemical analyses show that the uranium concentration ranges from 2 to 18 ppm except (M1) sample has 44 ppm and Fe2O3% ranges between 0.45% and 4.20% except one sample named (T.3.2) has 15.7% and AL2O3 % ranges between 11.7% and 37.2 %. 2- Gibbsite samples:- The activity concentrations ranges between UDL and 184.09 Bq/kg for 235U, between 37.50 and 5288.06 Bq/kg with average 1108.83 Bq/kg for 238U , between 3.04 and 26.42 Bq/kg with average 11.52 Bq/kg for 232Th and ranges between 13.52 and 411.24 Bq/kg with average 111.50 Bq/kg for 40K. The Chemical analyses show that the uranium concentration ranges between 13 and 470 ppm. and Fe2O3% ranges between 1.4% and 29.6% and AL2O3 % ranges between 5.2% and 36.7 %. The results of the study are considered as database information for investigators and industrial companies which used kaolin and gibbsite rocks as raw materials for several purposes. The advice is to use kaolin instead of gibbsite, because kaolin material is better than gibbsite material according to the international recommended system of radioactivity levels for the sake of safety. |
