Abstract Neoadjuvant chemotherapy has become widely accepted in the multimodality treatment of both operable and inoperable breast tumors. The advantages of this sequencing strategy include permitting the in vivo assessment of disease response to a particular chemotherapy regimen and allowing selected patients in whom mastectomy was recommended initially the possibility of being treated with breast conservation.Pathological examination of surgical specimens had confirmed statistically significant dowdstaging of all parameters of the tumors, including mean tumor size, lymph node and TNM groups proved a statistically significant difference between initial clinical and postchemotherapy clinical TNM stage .Also, Original tumor size is known as one of the main determinants of prognosis, and clear margins are crucial for local control. We strongly recommend utilizing the neoadjuvant chemotherapy in an attempt to reduce the tumor size aiming at conserving the breast. The accuracy of mammography indetecting NACT-induced pathological changes was low so we recommend using other imaging procedure for assessment of response of breast cancer for neoadjuvant chemotherapy as MRI. |
