Abstract Cyclophosphamide (CP) is a bifunctional alkylating nitrogen mustard derivative uses for cancer treatment but it induces oxidative stress resulting in genotoxicity. The present study was planned to evaluate the amelioration effect of liposomes as a drug delivery system and vitamin C (vit.C) as an antioxidant on the genotoxic effects induced by cyclophosphamide (CP) on mice. CP was administered as a single intraperitoneal dose (40 mg/kg body weight), the mice were sacrificed 24 h after the injection and the bone marrow was collected for the preparation of slides for the detection of chromosomal abelTations and micronuclei as two major parameters for the evaluation of the genotoxcity. The liver tissue homogenate was used for the estimation of glutathione S-transferase (GST) activity which is an important antioxidant enzyme in the detoxification of free. |
