Abstract Most of malnutrition problems for infants and young children in developing countries are mainly due to shortage in available varieties of weaning foods that will meet the ever increasing demand for foods at low cost, that could be attained by increasing the production of locally processed baby foods during harvesting season to present varieties of foods that would be available all the year around, so as to supplement the growth of infants born at different dates of the year. Furthermore, it has been proved that millions of children in the world, particularly in developing countries are suffering from malnutrition particularly under nutrition as a result of various factors among which are poverty an lack of nutritional education besides the unavailability of suitable foods ( Jelliffe, 1968 and Buffa, 1971 ). |
