Abstract

The aim of this study was to examine the effect of menopausal transition on women’s health and their quality of life. *The sample included 200 married women working in Ain Shams university. Their age ranged between 44-55 years. For data collection, the following tools were used: the first tool was an interviewing questionnaire for assessing the socio-demographic characteristic of the perimenopausal women, their general health condition, women obstetric and reproductive history and women’s current experiences and complaints associated with menopausal transition. Second tool was questionnaire for assessing women’s knowledge & practices regarding menopausal transition. Third tool was assessing women’s perception toward menopausal transition and hormonal replacement therapy (HRT) scale. Fourth tool was assessing women’s quality of life scale. The study reflected that more than two thirds of perimenopausal women had unsatisfactory knowledge regarding menopausal transition, about two thirds of perimenopausal women had negative perception toward menopause and about three quarters of them had negative perception toward HT and The majority of perimenopausal women had poor totally quality of life. There were no statistically association between total quality of life and their perception toward menopause. This study recommended the needs to increase public and family awareness through mass media to provide more explanations about menopausal transition and its effect on marital relationships and women’s QOL.
