Abstract Earthquake engineering is that branch of science which deals with the effects of earthquakes on people and their environment and with methods of reducing these effects. Therefore, three main goals were considered in this work: (1) Review the important theories, experimental researches and the results of the previous studies in order to study the properties and behavior of reinforced concrete elements subjected to seismic forces.(2) making comparative studies for calculating the seismic and wind loads for three different national building codes (Egyptian Code of Practice for Concrete Design 1993 ECOPL, Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures issued by the American Society of Civil Engineers UBC-94, and American Society of Civil Engineers ASCE 7-95), and (3) proposing the emergency measures and restoration plans for permanent disaster relief, and suggestions for prevention of future disasters in cases of earthquakes. |
