Abstract
These studies were carried out in Biotechnology Laboratory, Department of Genetics, Faculty of Agriculture, Minia University, El-Minia, Egypt during 2007-2011. In the present work established suitable tissue culture protocol for plant regeneration and and In vitro selection for Alliums white rot (Sclerotium cepivorum) resistant from different commercial Egyptian and introduced onion varieties. Also the study extended to measure the tissue content of polyphenol as an indicator characters related to resistance to diseases. Moreover, this work included more studies using isozyeme band pattern, PCR technique, pungency as well as cytogenetic studies the behavior of mitotic chromosome for donor plants and their calli tissue.
