Abstract Tuberculosis is considered a significant cause of morbidity and mortality in resource-poor nations. MTB can be diagnosed by many conventional diagnostic methods as staining by Z.N, Kinyoun stains or Auramine-based stains, many culture media can also be used as L.J, Ogawa and Middlebrook and tuberculin skin test. Recently, many non conventional diagnostic tools for detection of MTB as (1) immunological: antigen detection, antibody detection and Interferon Gamma Release Assays (IGRAs) (2) Automated culture methods: BACTEC TB- 460, Mycobacteria growth indicator tube (MGIT), BacT/ Alert 3D. Detection of genomic contents of MTB is done by PCR sequencing, DNA probe. Phenotypic methods by detection of mycolic acid derivatives different chromatography methods. It is essential for detection of antibiotic associated drug resistant mutants and drug susceptibility testing by many diagnostic tools. |
