Abstract Recently, some vesicular systems such as liposomes, niosomes, transferosomes and ethosomes were introduced into the pharmaceutical technologies. They outweigh other dosage forms in some aspects as sustained drug release, bioavailability enhancement of poorly soluble drugs, delayed drug elimination of rapidly metabolizable drugs, and overcome the problems of drug insolubility, instability, and rapid degradation. The most prevalent vesicular systems investigated for drug delivery are liposomes[1] and niosomes[2]. Liposomes (Fig. 1) are simple microscopic vesicles consisting of one or more concentric spheres of lipid bilayers enclosing the aqueous compartment. |
