Abstract
This is a pilot study was conducted at Ain Shams university maternity hospital in the period started from January 2008 to March 2009, aimed to find out the accuracy of ovarian volume and antral follicular count in estimating the ovarian reserve using transvaginal echography.
Forty patients with infertility were chosen from the gynecology infertility outpatient clinic asking for ovarian reserve assessment as apart of their infertility work up, and forty normal fertile women were chosen as a control.
Ovarian reserve was estimated for each group using most common ovarian reserve marker cycle day 3 FSH and LH.
Transvaginal ultrasound measurement of AFC and MOV is done for both groups by the same expert ultrasonographer.
Both groups were compared for age, duration of marriage, body mass index cycle day 3 FSH, LH and LH/ FSH ratio, MOV and AFC.
