Abstract This study was conducted in the department of Genetics at the Faculty of Agriculture, Ain Shams University. The data were collected from 432 does of different age belonging to the Zaraibi and Damascus goat breeds. Blood samples were taken from 76 females from two stations (Sakha and El-Serw) belonging to Department of Sheep and Goat Research, Animal Production Research Institute, Ministry of Agriculture, Egypt during the period from 2005 to 2007. Females were grouped in two sub-groups (non-prolific and prolific) according to litter size traits. The study aimed to: 1- Identify the two goat breeds and study the homogeneity of the breeds at the biochemical genetic level (protein polymorphism) and molecular genetic level (DNA analysis). 2- Find molecular markers, which can differentiate between breeds and help for future breeding programs. The achievement of the aim was done by using PAGE and RAPD techniques. |
