Abstract
The aim of our work is the preparation of some active rnethylene compounds as ethyl-3-oxo-3-(pyridin-3-yl)proPan~at(e1 ) and 3-0~0-3-@yridi-3-yl)propanenitrile (2). due to their importance as building blocks for the synthesis of many heterocyclic moieties. Compound (1) could be prepared by Claisen condensation of ethyl nicotinate with ethyl acetate in the presence of sodium ethoxide. The cyclization of (1) with phenyl hydrazine derivatives gave readily 3-(pyridin-3-y1)- 1 H-pyrazol-S(4H)-one system (3). On the other hand, the condensation of ethyl nicotinate with acetonitrile in the presence of sodium hydride gives compound (2). The cyclization of (2) with phenyl hydrazine gave 5-amino- 1 -phenyl-3-(pyridin-3-y1).
