Abstract

The present study aimed to clarify the effect of boldenone undecylenate on performance and health condition, hematological and
some biochemical parameters, histological changes, immune response,
sperm quality and effect of withdrawal period on affected parameters.
Sixty male apparently healthy New Zealand white rabbits were divided
uniformly by weight into three equal groups each of 20 rabbits.
Group (1) was injected intramuscularly with adjuvant substance (sesame
oil) once every three weeks for 3 times and was considered as a control
group.
Group (2) was treated with boldenone at the manufactured recommended
dose to rabbit (4.5mg/kg BW) once every 3weeks for 3 times.
Group (3) was treated with boldenone at a dose double the recommended
dose (9 mg/kg BW) once every 3weeks for 3 times.
Two blood samples were collected each 15 days from each animal for
hemogram the second part for separation of serum and another blood
samples were collected monthly on heparin three months and used for
evaluation of phagocytic activity of hetrophils. Also liver, kidney, testes
and accessory sex organs were collected for histopathology. three semen
collection were collected at 30, 45,60 days post last injection .
As a final conclusion of the present study, boldenone undecylenate
injection induced a significant increase in the growth rate of the treated
rabbits in especially in group (D) in comparison with control. Also it was
found that boldenone undecylenate improved the feed conversion in the
treated groups and the degree of improvement was dose dependant.
