Abstract In vitro, to study effect of Echinacea, Allium cepa (onion) and origanum majorana (marjoram) on morphology of peripheral blood mononuclear cells, the results revealed no changes in cell size. Cultured phagocytic cells exposed to Echinacea, Allium cepa (onion) and origanum majorana (marjoram) have more phagocytic activity in comparison with FITC control cells. Phagocytic activity of marjoram and Echinacea were more than onion. Interestingly, the phagocytic cells killing activity increased in cells treated with Echinacea, onion and marjoram extracts about 100%, 100% and 95% respectively, compared to about 80% for the control cells. T-cells exposed to Echinacea, onion and marjoram through rosette test revealed that the number of rosette was concentration dependent 111 Echinacea where it increased by increasing the concentration and 111 onion and marjoram was concentration independent. In ex-vivo, cells increased in size in rabbits that fed on Echinacea and marjoram compared to the control group and there were no changes in cells size on onion fed group. |
