Abstract Maize (Zea mays L.) is one of the major cereal crops in Egypt and the worldwide. Com has been referred to as ” The cereal of the future ” due to its high nutritional value and the wide utilization of its products and by-products (Milazzo, 1986). The world production of corn ranked third in the order of the world cereal production (F.A.O. 1988). Also, its rank in Egypt is the third leading crop surpassed only by rice and wheat and total area devoted to maize cultivation annually in Egypt is about two million feddans. Egypt produces from five and a half to six millions tons annually with an average yield/feddan reached 22.90 Ard./Fed.* (Ardab = 140 Kg) which covers about 75% of our essential need for human and livestock feeding. Therefore, to over come such a gap, evaluation and selection of elite prom1smg inbred lines either local and/or exotic cultivars as well as have now become of main research objectives to achieve this purpose and for utilizing a hybrid vigor. On the other hand, yield anti yield co111ponents; physiological and chemical traits are of the great importance for dealing with the inheritance of such entities to assist maize breeders and geneticists to plan the convenient breeding programmes for increasing yield |
