Abstract

The UASB system is a new technique applied successfully in different countries for wastewater treatment. This research aimed at evaluation and assessment of the real performance and the applicability of the full scale UASB system in wastewater treatment in Egypt at local conditions especially in the rural areas. The UASB system was assessed and monitored in Nahtay wastewater treatment plant which lies in Zifta city at El-Gharbia governorate. Also the study was carried out to evaluate its reliability, testability and its potentials along the startup and steady state period regarding the different operational conditions and circumstances. Consequently, is to assess the probable post treatment system on the global efficiency for the treatment process.
The experimental study analysis that was made in the plant laboratory proved the often satisfactory of UASB treatment. The UASB system achieved high removal ratios for COD almost 86%, BOD 89%, TSS 88.68%.
Financially, UASB compared with conventional systems plant saves 16% of total area required
