Abstract

In Developed Countries in Most hospitals Chest Physiotherapy is Seen as an Integral Part of Management of Patients in Critical Care Unit (CCU) Chest Physiotherapy Involves the Non-Invasive Airway Clearance Techniques Designed to facilitate the Loosening of Mucus Enhance Movement of Bronchial Secretions from Peripheral to more Central Lnug Regions and to Aid in their Expectoration Chest Physiotherapyof Critically Mechanically Ventilated Patients Can Have A Profound Influence on Gas Exchange By Improving Ventilation Decreasing Ventilation-Perfusion Mismatch Re-Expanding Atelectatic Areeas and Increasing Functional Residual Capacity.
moreover Despite the Fact that Chest Physiotherapy is an Emergent Strategy Which Improves Gas Exchange and is A Frequently Recommended Interention in the nursing Lierature Yet it has Often Been Observed that Chest Physiotherapy is Still ANeglected Activity in the Nursing Intervention of Critically ill Patients Especially the Mexhanically Ventilated ones.
Although Physiotherapy is Seen as an Integral of the Multidisciplinary team in the Most CCUs, there is Only Limited Evidence Concering the Effectiveness of Chest Physiotherapy in this Setting Setting there is an Urgent Need For Further Research to be Conducted to Justify the Role of Chest Physiotherapy in the CCU.
