Abstract The study was randomized double-blind controlled trial included one hundred (100) pregnant women from the Obstetrics outpatient clinic of Ain Shams University Hospital, between May 2008 and December 2008. All women were divided into three groups; first and second group twenty-five women third group fifty women. Pregnant women were randomly allocated to receive either one capsule contains 400 mg of ginger, 25 mg of vitamin B6 or lactose powder three times per day for seven days. The degree of nausea and vomiting were assessed by three physical symptoms modified from full Rhode’s score (episodes of nausea, duration of nausea and number of vomits). Difference of baseline and post-treatment nausea vomiting scores were calculated for both groups during seven days of treatment. Ginger and vitamin B6 significantly reduced nausea and vomiting scores and there was a highly statistical significant difference between ginger, vitamin B6 and control regarding change of total nausea vomiting scores, vomiting times, nausea times and nausea periods(p<0.01). In relation to comparison between ginger, vitamin B6 and control regarding post treatment adverse effects, there was no statistical significant difference (p>0.05). |
