Abstract

Summary
In this study the genital tracts were collected from 100 ewes slaughtered in abattoirs of sohage governorate their age ranged from 1-6 years. They were examined grossly and samples from ovaries, fallopian tubes, uterus, cervix, vagina and vulva were taken and processed for histopathological studies, also blood samples were collected from each animal before slaughtering and serum was separated until further serological analysis, for detection of brucella, salmonella, and toxoplasma antibodies. Bacteriological swaps were taken from lumen of vagina and uterus after slaughtering, and then it processed for bacteriological examination.
The pathological examination of these cases revealed that: Ovarian affections recorded in 35 cases out of 100 cases include: 1- ovarian follicular cyst 5 cases. 2- luteinized follicular cyst 9 cases. 3- oophritis 21 cases.
In fallopian tubes there were 1- acute catarrhal salpingitis 5 cases. 2- luteinized follicular cyst 9 cases. 3- oophritis 21 cases.
In fallopian tubes there were 1- acute catarrhal salpingitis 5 cases. 2- Chronic catarrhal salpingitis 15 cases.
In the uterus the lesions include lymphoplasmocytic endometritis 30 cases. 2- lymphoplasmocytic metritis 5 cases. 3- Acute catarrhal endometritis 18 cases. 4- Chronic catarrhal endometritis 29 cases. 5- fibrinonecrotic endometritis 1 case. 6- suppurative endometritis 4 cases. 7- adenomyosis 8 cases.
In the cervix the affections include: 1- acute catarrhal cervicitis 7 cases. 2- Chronic catarrhal cervicitis 4 cases. 3- Acute necrotic cervicitis 1 case. 4- Acute fibrinonecrotic cervicitis 2 cases.
In vagina and vulva there were: 1- acute granular vulvovaginitis 8 cases. 2- Chronic granular vulvovaginitis 2 cases. 3- Ulcerative vulvovaginitis 2 cases.
Serological examination of blood samples and Bacteriological examination of swaps of 60 cases indicating that, there are various species of bacteria were present at the different regions of the reproductive tract of the investigated as well as serologically positive cases for either brucella, salmonella or toxoplasma. This examination revealed that: 1- staph aureus which isolated from 2 cases (3.33%).
2- staph aureus with streptococcus species isolated from 1 (1.66%) case. 3- Streptococcus species was isolated from 3(5%) cases.
4- Streptococcus isolated from 1(1.66%) case associated with serologically positive brucella.
5- The proteus species was isolated from 1 (1.66%) cases.
6- E-coli were isolated from 1(1.66%) case associated with salmonella species.
7- Salmonella species was isolated and detected by weidal test in 9 cases (15%).
8- Salmonella species detected in association with toxoplasma antibodies in 1 (1.66%).
9- Toxoplasma antibobies were serologically detected also in another 6 cases (10%).
10- Brucella antibodies were serologically detected by rose bengal test in association with toxoplasma antibodies at 1 case (1.66%).
