Abstract The present study aimed to: evaluate platelet activation in patients with acute ischaemic stroke and patients with migraine. This study was carried out on forty patients , twenty of them were acute ischaemic stroke patients ( group 1 ), The other twenty patients were migraine sufferers (group 2), Twenty normal volunteers were chosen as a control group (group 3), Percentage of platelet activation was significantly higher in stroke group than control group (p= 0.003).Also, it was significantly higher in migraine group than control group (p< 0.001). Percentage of platelet activation was significantly higher in stroke group than migraine group (p <0.0001). Levels of serum TG, TC, HDL-ch and LDL-ch were significantly higher in stroke group than control group (p <0.001 for all). CRP was significantly higher in both stroke and migraine groups. (p = 0.026 and 0.004 respectively) compared to control group. Oral contraceptive pills use was significantly higher in females of both stroke group and migraine group than females of control group (p=0.047 and 0.002 respectively). Systolic and diastolic B.P. was significantly higher in stroke group than control group ((p value <0.0001). |
