Many factors may contribute into occurance of childhood obesity e.g., high calorie diet, sedentary life, medications such as glucocorticoids, psychological factors, sleep disturbances, socioeconomic status, genetic factors and medical illness such as hormonal disturbances.

Childhood obesity however can also lead to life-threatening conditions including high blood pressure, heart disease and cancer.
