Abstract Under El-Minia conditions, the behaviour of pink sugarcane mealybug, Saccharicoccus sacchari and their effect on the physical and chemical characters of five sugarcane cultivars. Results revealed that infestation parameters differed greatly among cultivars and seasons and began in ratoon one months earlier than plant cane. Simple correlation and regression indicated that infestation incidence gave the good relation with plant age. Wind speed had greatly affected infestation incidence in plant cane and 1st ratoon, while, 2nd ratoon greatly affected by low temperature and humidity. Mealybug infestation negatively affected most physical, chemical, quality and yield of sugarcane. Cultivars potentiality to resist mealybug damage could be arranged in descending order as follows: G 98/28> G 84/47> GT 54/9> PH 8013> G 99/103 |
