Abstract

Two field experiments were carried out during 2007/2008 and 2008/2009 winter seasons. The aim of the study was to identify wheat cultivars (Triticum aesitivum L. cv. Sakha-93, Sakha-94, Giza-168, Gemmieza-9 and Gemmieza-10) and (Triticum durum L. cv. Beni Suef-1, Beni Suef-3, Sohag-3) that can utilize the zinc to be more efficiency. where it was determine the effects of three zinc levels as soil application (control, 1.5 and 3.0 kg Zn/fed., as Zinc sulphate (Zn SO4.7H2O. A second experiment was carried out under growth chamber conditions, at the National Research Center, Dokki, Egypt. Treatments in the main plots were the Zn concentrations and in the subplots were 5 wheat (Triticum aesitivum L. cultivars cvs. Sakha-93, Sakha-94, Giza-168, Gemmiza-9 and Gemmiza-10).
Results showed that the highest grain yield obtained with Sakha -94 and Gemmieza-9 cultivars. Use of zinc as soil application at the rate of 3.0 kg Zn/ fed. for Giza-168, Sakha 94 and Gemmieza-9 caused high uptake of phosphorus, potassium, zinc and iron under sandy soil conditions.
For the pot experiment, results showed significant differences between cultivars in enzyme content and protein content / fresh weight, fresh and dry weight of shoots and roots, nutrients content of shoots and roots. Sakha-94 was clearly influenced by zinc deficiency in the growth medium, by low production of dry matter, and Gemmieza-10 shows better enzyme activity under zinc deficiency in growth medium. This indicates that the activity of the carbonic anhydrase enzyme is considered a good indicator for active zinc in wheat cultivars
