Abstract

This work contains three main parts:
Part I: This part included on a literature survey of 2,5-dihydroxyacetophenone (quinacetophenone) compound specially the medicinal interests, different methods of preparations such as Friedel-Crafts, Fries and Hoesch reactions in addition to others methods and finally the chemical reactions and interconversions. Depending upon the present function groups, this compound was used in various chemical reactions leading to the synthesis of medicinal interesting naturally compounds such as flavones, chromones, coumarins and other derivatives. Literature survey showed the different chemical and interconversion reactions and gave a good picture about its reactivity and its use in future reactions.
Part II: In this part, 33 new compounds were synthesized and the synthetic mechanisms were investigated. The structures of the synthesized compounds were elucidated by elemental analyses and spectral data such as infrared, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR and mass spectra. Many benzopyrone derivatives incorporating different heterocycles such as xanthone, pyrazole, pyrimidine, selenadiazole, and thiadiazoline in addition to other derivatives were synthesized. Biological activities of the newly synthesized compounds were carried out as anticancer agents. The tested compounds exhibited good activities.
Part III: In this part, the experimental methods used in the synthesis of the new compounds were mentioned in addition to a general study of the physical properties, elemental analyses and spectral data such as infra red, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, and mass spectra. Also, the materials and methods used for the biological testing are included
