Abstract This study was made to provide information about the different lesions which affect the thyroid glands of different animal species in Egypt. Histopathological examination and hormonal assay had been made. A variety of lesions were observed. These lesions included, goiter which was present in three forms, colloid goiter; which represented 28.8% in donkeys, 41.8 % in cattle and 25% in dogs. The second type of goiter was hyperplastic goiter which represented 49% in donkeys, 58.2% in cattle and 75% in dogs. The last type was parenchymatous goiter, its incidence was 16.8% in donkeys. The incidence of tumours was law in donkeys (5.4%) and nil in other species. Thyroid function test showed some variation in relation to different lesions. Also an experiment was planned to study the effect of hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism on different body organs of goats and also to study their effect on hormonal assay and some biochemical parameters. Some changes were observed on organs, hormonal assay and some biochemical parameters. |
