Abstract

A survey study was carried out to investigate 112 farms, 21 was closed system and 91 was opened system during the period from January 2010 to March 2011. Among them broiler farms were 81, layers were 13 and others (ducks and turkey) were 13 in both types of houses, breeders were 5 to demonstrate the epidemiological importance of poultry house environment manifested in deep litter system which is considered the risk factor for the association of Salmonella and Campylobacter colonization and physical and chemical determinants of poultry litter. The end result revealed to litter condition manifests the health status of bird. The determination of Salmonella and Campylobacter pathogens in broiler and poultry litter is essential to identify critical control points for prevention of the infection of the live poultry at farms level. The mangers of farms would have environmental samples and bedding samples at weekly intervals regularly during the rearing period to assess the risk factor for Salmonella and Campylobacter contamination and to determine the main pathogens in broiler production.
