Abstract Brucella abortus strain 99 was inactivated by gamma irradiation (Cobalt-60) at 600 kilo rad. No significant differences was observed in the quality of protein between the heat inactivated and irradiated Brucellae but the amount of protein was higher in the irradiated Brucella. The electron micrograph declared partial rupture of the cell membrane in the heat inactivated Brucellae but it was intact in the irradiated one. Resultes of the examination of 176 serum samples from aborted animals (11 cattle, 14 camels, 106 sheep and 45 goats) by Brucella antigens prepared either by heat or irradiation, revealed comparable resultes in the serological efficiency of the conventional and irradiated buffered acidified plate antigen and Rivanol plate antigen but the mean antibody titers was higher when detected by using the irradiated tube agglutination antigen. |
