Abstract Behavioral problems among preschool children is a global problem of significant public health importance that adversely affects the health of and the health of their parent. The aim of the present study was Assess common behavioral problems among preschool children as perceived by mothers and teachers. Across- sectional descriptive study was conducted at day care centers in Port Said city during the year 2010-2011. The sample was 216 preschool children mothers and the sample was including teachers who were coping with the child. The translated version of Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL) and Arabic Teacher Version of the Conner’s rating scale was used to assess common behavioral problems among preschool children as perceived by mothers and teachers. Results obtained from this study revealed that the 9.7% of preschool children had common behavioral problems as perceived by their mothers. Other behavioral problems such as (fears, eating problems, eye problems, skin problems or speech problems…..ect), followed by attention problems and aggressive behavior were the most frequent behavioral problems (28.2%,13.0% and 10.2% respectively) recorded by the preschooler mothers. Meanwhile, common behavioral problems reported by the preschooler teachers (26.9%). Aggression, anxiety, and inattention and distractibility were the most frequent behavioral disorders recorded by the preschooler teachers (41.7%, 41.2% and 35.2% respectively). Conclusions: Mothers and teachers had different perceptions of the different types of behavioral problems among preschool children. Recommendations: mothers and teachers should recognize that screening should be a part of day care center. |
