Abstract
This thesis is focusing on the enhancement of the retrieval methods from Arabic as well as English web sites To achieve this goal.two different ranking algorithms for metasearch engine are introduced. The first algorithm ranking decision is dependent on the ranking function of the component search engines. The other algorithm makes ranking decision based on the content of URLs retrieved from component search engincs. These two proposed ranking algorithms have been tested with a number of Arabic queries as well as English queries. For each query, the quality of the retrieved results are measured using information retrieval metrics based on recall and precision. These metrics measure the degree of user satisfaction about the retrieved results from the metasearch engine. Moreover. the time elapsed between submission of query and apearance of the obtained response US1l1g each of the proposed algorithms is also measured.
