Abstract
The present investingation deals with the infection of dogs (as final hosts) and sheep(as intermediate hosts) with the cestode Echinococcus granulosus in Libya. The study involved the local and imported sheep. The dogs and sheep were examined in Jabal Al-Akhdar Mountain reigon which was divided into five areas (A-E). A comparison of infection in dogs and sheep was made between the different areas of study and between the local and imported sheep, males and females. In this study, 170 dogs and 3650 sheep were examined. The dogs were anesthetized using a dose of 1:2 mg/kg arcoline hydrobromide where samples of faeces were collected and washed several times with saline solution (0.6-0.9) to get out the cestode worms. Moreover, the sheep were sacrificed under the supervision of the Ministry of Health, Jabal Al-Akhdar-Libya and divided as local and imported, and into males and females depending on the age into four group. Determination of the age of sheep takes place through the teeth. However, the molecular analysis using the specific oligonucleotide primer in PCR produced different product profiles and can be used as differentiating premier was egND1-19. It did produce tow band with adult worm (326.787 , 225.675) but a single band with protoscoleces either local and imported strains (DNA protoscoleces from hydatid cyst of male local sheep from liver 334.499, DNA protoscoleces from hydatid cyst of imported male sheep from lung it did a single band334.499, DNA protoscoleces from hydatid cyst of local female sheep from liver 302.342, DNA protoscoleces from hydatid cyst of imported female sheep from lung 289.824).
