Abstract PART (1): Antioxidants First Experiment acid SA each at 50 , 100 or 200 ppm were used in this investigation during the two successive autumn seasons of 2006 and 2007. Squash seeds Cucurbita pepeo L. ”cv. Eskandrany” were soaked in each concentration of the mentioned antioxidants for 24 hrs. then the seeds were washed in distilled water for half hour before sowing. Meanwhile, the control seeds were soaked for the same period of time in distilled water. Thes experiment was carried out of the farm of Agriculture, Horticulture Research Station, Arab El Awamer, Assuit Governorate, Egypt. Results ofthes experiment are summarized as follows ::1- Vegetative growth characters:- All growth parameters i.e. number of leaves / plant, plant height (cm) and dry weight (g)/plant were significantly affected by the rates. The tallest plant (cm), highest number of leaves / plant, and the heaviest dry weight of plant (g) were obtained from plant treated by 100 ppm AA in both seasons. 2- Flower characters:- All flowers parameters significantly affected by the three antioxidants rates. The lowest number of days from sowing to appearance of the first female flower, number of male and female flower / plant and the best sex ratio were resulted from plant treated by 100 ppm AA. 3- Fruit characters:- Soaking squash seeds with the three antioxidants rates were significantly affected on all fruit prameters in both seasons. The highest values of average fruit weight (g), fruit length (em) fruit diameter (cm) and shape index a relative to control were gained from soaking in 100 ppm AA in both seasons. 4- Yield characters :- Soaking squash seeds III AA, SA and CA rates was significantly affected all yield parameters, in both seasons. However, AA superiority than either both the CA or SA in all the studied traits was obvious where the highest values of number of fruits / plot, weight of fruits / plot (kg) for early yield and early yield (ton/fed.) and number of fruit / plot, weight of fruits / plot (kg) for total yield, total yield (ton/fed.), number of fruits/plant and fruit weight of fruits / plant (g) were obtained with soaking in 100 ppm AA .. 5- Plant analysis: - Data illustrated that N, P, K-concentration in plant tissues as will as uptake N, P, K / pant of squash was significantly increased with soaking squash seeds in the three antioxidants, in both seasons. When AA at 100 ppm was applied the most significant increase was gained compared with control. |
