Abstract

CT perfusion is a useful and non invasive technique for evaluating brain neoplasms. Malignant and normal tissues can be accurately differentiated using perfusion maps, with the aim of performing tumor diagnosis and grading, and follow-up analysis.
PCT can provide complementary information about vascularity of gliomas, which can be useful in predicting tumor grade and prognosis where the differences in PS, CBV, and CBF between the low- and high-grade tumor groups were significant, with the low-grade group showing lower mean values than the high-grade group.
PCT can differentiate intracranial tumors from an abscess with high sensitivity, specificity and accuracy. It can also Differentiate tumefactive demyelinating lesions from high grade gliomas where TDL showed significantly lower mean than the high grade glioma group for PS, CBV and CBF.
PCT can also be used for tumor therapy planning, monitoring and predicting response. It is useful as a general indicator of therapeutic response on the basis that angiogenesis, and its physiological imaging correlates, can be used as a marker of tumor activity.
