Abstract

The aim of this work is to review different types and forms of chemical peeling with a trial of TCA as a chemical peeler.
We can conclude that TCA is an effective modality in clearing pigmentary pigmentary disorders as melasma. Ephelides and post acne hyperpigmentation: verruca: seborrhoeic keratosis: acne and other cutaneous disorders as skin tags: xanthelasma: trichoepithelioma and syringoma. In case of trichoepithelioma a peel is recommended each two months to prevent recurrence of the lesion.
It is advised to follow then instructions and precautions mentioned by Brody (1989 a) to reach the required response. Thorough cleansing and preparation is advised to reach a uniform response. A test dose of 10% TCA is used first to test for the liability to develop post peel hyperpigmentation. A concentration of 2o-25% TCA is recommended in cases of melasma while a 50% concentration is advised in cases of ephelides and seborrhoeic keratosis. Verrucae could be treated by curettage followed by application of 50% TCA.
In order to avoid complications, sun avoidance and sun screens should be prescribed throughout the period of therapy and for one month postpeel.
