Abstract This study was conducted at Endocrinology Department in Ain Shams University hospital during the period from February 2010 to Jun 2010. This study was conducted on 40 subjects; all of them were healthy females, aged between 15 and 30 years old. Individuals who willing to participate in this study were divided into two groups: Group 1: (20) simple obese subjects; BMI between 30-40. Group 2: (20) normal subjects; BMI between 18-24. The aim of this study is to assess circadian rhythm of serum cortisol level in μgm/dl and assess systolic and diastolic blood pressure in mmHg in simple obese subjects. The results of the study showed the following: • There was no statistical significant difference between the lean group and simple obese group either central or gluteofemoral phenotypes as regards the mean serum cortisol level in μcg/dl at different timings, mean systolic BP in mmHg, mean diastolic BP in mmHg according to P value (P>0.05) . • There was a peak of serum cortisol level in μcg/dl at 9:00 followed by significant reduction till 12 am according to paired t test and P value (P<0.05). • On comparing the mean systolic and diastolic blood pressure in mmHg at each timing with the preceding timing : there was a statistical significant decrease in mean systolic and diastolic pressure from 9 am till 3 pm in both lean and simple obese groups according to paired t test and P value (P<0.05) then followed by non significant decrease (P>0.05). • There was no statsitical significant difference between subjects with phenotype central and gluteofemoral simple obesity as regards serum cortisol level in μgm/dl, systolic blood pressure in mmHg and diastolic blood pressure in mmHg according to P value (P>0.05). |
