The purpose of this research is to identify the requirements of the application of the telework; from remote location (full-time and part-time) in terms of staff, and the organization, In addition to measuring the direct impact of telework on outcomes of teleworkers in the companies under study.
Based on the data from the questionnaire survey conducted on a population of the teleworkers in companies at Smart village [N = 152]. The pilot study reveals that gender, age, and marital status are the most relevant demographic variables in applying telework. Also, the result indicates that the organizational factors have a significant effect on applying telework, especially technology; it was the most relevant factor.
Moreover, it was a significant effect from applying telework on the teleworkers’ outcomes, especially when applying for a full-time telework.
First: Introduction:
Organizations are in the process of moving to a network-based operating structure and in an effort to cut costs and improve worker moral. So, those organizations are increasingly turning to telecommuting.
Telecommuting is a significant workplace innovation that allows an increasing work force to work from home or work at a remote location from the central workplace at least one-day a week.
Although many companies today are experiencing the usefulness of telecommuting, there are conflicting reports state on the negative effects that working outside the office on telecommuters which directly affect their productivity.
Second: Problem of the Study:
Based on the results of the pilot study, the researcher could state the problem in the following sentence:
“Although some companies use the telework as a method of flexible working, these companies still suffer from deficiencies in provision of the requirements of the application of telework, and thus lower of expected benefits from the application of this method”.
Third: Objectives of the Study:
In accordance with Study problem, the objectives of the Study can be represented as follows:
1. To determine the impact of demographic factors for workers in the application of telework for both (full-time and part-time) in the companies under study.
2. To identify the role of organizational factor on the application of telework for both (full-time and part-time) in the companies under study.
3. To measure the direct impact of the application of both (full-time and part-time) telework on the outcomes of teleworkers in the companies under study.
Fourth: Hypotheses of the Study:
In accordance with Study problem, the hypotheses of the Study can be represented as follows:
1. There is no significant effect of demographic variables (age, gender, marital status, years of experiences, and the level of education) on the application of telework.
2. There is no significant effect of organizational factors (support of top management, internal trust and technology) on the application of telework.
3. There is no significant effect of the application of telework (full- time or part time) on the outcomes of teleworkers.
Fifth: Framework of the Study:
To achieve the objectives of the study, the researcher divided the study into five chapters as follows:
Chapter 1: Introduction and Literature review:
It includes theoretical framework and previous studies for the requirements of the application of telework, Types of telework (full-time and part-time) and outcomes of teleworkers.
Chapter 2: Methodology of the Research:
It includes a detailed view of importance of study, its problem, questions, objectives, hypothesis, and its method. The research method includes method of data collection, study population, variables of the study, and methods of statistical used.
Chapter 3: Empirical study:
It aims at displaying the results that have been reached on the study hypothesis, analysis, and interpretation of these results.
Chapter 4: Results and Recommendations:
It includes a brief summary of the most important results and the recommendations.
Sixth: Results of the Study:
The main results of the Study can be represented as follows:
1. There is a significant effect for (gender, age, level of education, years of experiences, marital status) on the application of telework (full-time and part-time).
2. There is a significant effect for (the supporting of the top management, internal trust, technology) on the application of telework (full-time and part-time).
3. There is a significant effect for the application of telework ( full-time and part-time) on (autonomy, work-life balance , the quality of relationship between teleworkers and their superiors , the quality of relationship among teleworkers and their colleagues , job satisfaction)
4. The result showed that (51.3%) of the total sample working full-time telework and the proportion (48.7%) of the total sample working part-time telework.
5. The result showed increased the numbers of teleworkers during and outside working hours together by (47.4%) of the total sample, compared to work remotely during working hours (38.8%) and work outside normal working hours (13.8%).
Seventh: Recommendations of the Study:
In accordance with Study results, the Recommendations of the Study can be represented as follows:
1) Recommendations for supporting the idea of teleworking:
• Increase awareness in the community to the concept of teleworking and the advantages of its application.
• Creating legislative & legal climate, and study the economic conditions that helps the success of applying the teleworking to achieve the desired goals.
