Abstract

Coccidiosis in rabbit especially Eimeria steidae considered as the one of the most important economic diseases affecting performance, production, biochemical chracters of rabbits.
So this study was completed: To throw light on the effect of coccidiosis infection of rabbit on hepatic enzymes
In this study we used 36 healthy male rabbits aged 6-8 weeks ± 5-6 days and weighting 1200-1300 ± 50g
And take all the managemental characters that required for rabbit from housing and feeding.
The rabbits examined for free from any coccidiosis infection prior to the experiment was confirmed by fecal examinations in rabbits daily.
The rabbits were divided into 6 groups, each of them of 6 rabbits which are:
A-Healthy control group1
B-Infested group2 with pool of intestinal coccidian range between 2 X 105 and 4 X 105 by a direct instillation through a tube into the empty stomach or by syringe without needle. And take samples at 6, 10 and 14 days after infection.
The withdrwal blood samples began at the day 6 as this day the coccidiosis symptoms appeared on it and on feaces.
C-Infested group with hepatic coccidiosis:
This group infected with (E. stiedae) 40000 sporulated E. stiedae oocysts by a direct instillation through a tube into the empty stomach or by syringe without needle. and the blood samples withdrown at 6, 10 and 14 days after infestion.
D-Control group (Free from infection and treated with sulpha) to examine the effect of the coccidian free groups on enzymes level or the effect of sulpha treated group on enzymes level.
E-Treated group of intestinal coccidian and treated by sulpha in drinking water:-
The drug mixture the used in treatment of rabbit include Sulphamethoxine, Sulphaquinoxalline and Vit. K.
F-Treated group of hepatic coccidian by sulpha compound but by injection method.
The blood samples also, collected at 6, 10 and 14 days after injection by syringe from ear vein.
At day 6 from infection the oocyts appeared in the feces and also the symptoms of the disease. The 1st sample well collected from the different groups :
1st Control group, 2nd Infected intestinal group, 3rd infected hepatic group and the 4th control group that treated with sulpha (Free from infection but treated with sulpha).
Blood samples take from rabbit from ear vein after one week and two weeks from the study of the experiment and serum were prepared and we determined the level of the following enzymes in different groups under study
The most important obtained results of this study can be summarized in the following:
1-The results indicated that, the ALT, AST, ALP, LDH and GGT activities were increased in the groups treated with hepatic and intestinal coccidiosis than the other groups under the study.
2-The level of total bilirubin, direct bilirubin and indirect bilirubin increased in groups infected with intestinal coccidiosis and hepatic coccidiosis.
3-The levels of total protein, albumin and globulin and albumin/ globulin ratio in the groups infected with coccidiosis were elevated.
4- The level of uric acid, creatinine and urea increased in coccidial infestation than that of other groups.
5-The results also indicated that, the treatment with sulphadimidine drugs causes reduction in oocyst sheds in the fecal matter, improving the general health of the rabbit with nearly improving the means of biochemical parameters estimated in this study.
