Abstract

Adolescence is a unique period in the life cycle that presents special challenges and opportunities to the individual As adolescent access the health care system for physical health problems they also access the system for lifestyle problems. To avoid high future coasts on both individual and society, it is important to discourage adolescence form all harmful substance. Resources devoted to adolescent injury prevention must be appropriate for the size of the problem .more investment is needed for such activates as data collection, community based injury surveys, and capacity building and programs aimed at local communities and evaluations of the costs of injuries and of the cost-effectiveness of prevention measures This study is an analytic, cross-sectional study. It includes adolescent students in Menofia governorate. A (951) students (534 males and 417 females) were subjected to Arabic based questionnaire to asses pattern of most common health risk behaviors that contribute to the leading causes of death, disability, and social problems among adolescent. 32.92% out of studied adolescents reported that they had ever tried cigarette smoking, whoever %26.4 Smoked a whole cigarette for the first time before age 13 years, and %23.2 out of studied adolescents reported Smoked more than 10 cigarettes ,also 7.3% out of studied adolescents reported that they tried to quit cigarette smoking. 5.57% out of studied adolescents reported that they had Ever used marijuana (banjo or hashish) one or more times (during their life) while 4.73%of studied adolescents reported that they had tried marijuana for the first time before age 13 years. Also 3.9%of studied adolescents reported that they had used marijuana (banjo or hashish) one or more times (during the 30 days before the survey). While 7.25% out of studied adolescent reported that they had carried a weapon for 1 day. We found that 30.6% out of studied adolescent reported that they were in a physical fight one or more times. Also we found that 23.24% out of studied adolescents reported that they felt sad or hopeless. Moreover 8.73% of studied adolescent reported that they seriously considered attempting suicide. The study showed that 19.2% of studied adolescents reported that they eat fruit or drink 100% fruit juices less than one time per day. Regarding to eating behavior we found that 17.7% of studied adolescents reported that they did not eat vegetables (green salad, potatoes, carrots, or other vegetables, during the 7 days before the survey). However 64.04% of studied adolescents reported that did not drink milk (during the 7 days before the survey. Also %85 reported that they drank a can, bottle, or glass of soda or pop (during the 7 days before the survey).Regarding to time consumption 74.6% out of studied adolescent reported that they watch television 3 or more hours per day. However 53.5% of studied adolescent reported that they use computers for 3 or more hours per day. Also we found that Male and females, different age groups and family income differ significantly in risk behaviors..
