Abstract Aim of the study: To compare the effectiveness and safety of sublingual Misoprostol (400ug) administrated immediately after delivery of the neonate with intravenous with intravenous Methylergonetrine (0.2 mg) and with intravenous oxytocin (20 IU) in reducing blood loss during caesarean section. Conclusion: We concluded on the basis of this study that sublingual misoprostol (400 ug) appears to be as effective as intravenous oxytocin infusion (20 IU) and intravenous methylergometrine (0.2 mg) in reducing blood loss during elective caesarean section. Misoprostol offer several advantages over oxytocin or methylergometrine including a shelf life for several years, stability at room temperature, different routes of administrations and it can be administrated to hypotensive patients. The advantages of misoprostol make it a feasible drug to be used in the routine management of third stage of labour following vaginal delivery or caesarean section especially in low resource countries. |
