Abstract

Nonlinear behavior of cantilever girders with corrugated steel web is investigated focusing on the different failure modes which affect the web design. Cantilever beams with steel corrugated webs were tested up to failure under shear; the failure was due to buckling of the web. The test specimens were modeled using finite elements and the computer program Cosmos/M was used to perform nonlinear analysis. The comparison between the results from the finite-element analysis and tests was satisfactory. Modifieed interaction equation, which is based on local buckling of the corrugation fold as an isotropic flat plate, global buckling of the entire web panel as an orthotropic plate, and steel tielding of the web is presented.
