Abstract Commercial hexane is used in the production of adhesives , coatings and printing inks , as a raw material in chemical synthesis , and as a solvent in various kinds of extraction operations. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the feasibility of producing commercial hexane from Abu Qir condensate ( at Western Desert Operating petroleum . Company Field ) by designing and estimating the cost of a new production line which can use old facilities in the exising LPG plant as storage . ranks, loading station, hot oil system and land. The study is divided into three sections 1 . Analytical study using a research unit and detennining the properties of the obtained commercial hexane according to American Society for Testing and Materials ( ASTM ) specifications . 2 . Preliminary design of the proposed producion line USIng CHEMSHARE PROGRAM ( short cut method) . 3 . Economic study on the preliminary results . Two modes of production line were proposed ( completely new line - and a line that uses existing facilities ) and two• production schedules were proposed for each line , the best economic parameters ( Pay back perioli of 14 months and turnover ratio of 0.958 ) were found to be for the line that produces commercial hexane and uses existing facilities . On the other hand the worst economic parameters (pay back period of 38 months and turnover ratio of , 0.38 ) were found to be for the new production line that follows a versatile production schedule . |
