Abstract

Clomiphene citrate (cc) represents the most common and simple method to induce ovulation in women with normogonadotropic anovulatory infertility (Dickey et al., 1996).
Classically, CC treatment induces ovulation in 60–80%. More than 70% of those who ovulate respond at the 50- or 100-mg dosage level (Imani et al., 1999).
The majority of patients who don’t respond to CC will need to shift to gonadotropin therapy with few other options. While effective, gonadotropin therapy does have several drawbacks. It is expensive, requires rigorous monitoring, and can cause multiple follicles to develop, which can cause multiple pregnancies. (Badawy and Elnashar, 2011)
The aim of this study was to evaluate whether adding micro-dose of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) to clomiphene citrate (CC) results in successful ovulation and pregnancy in unexplained infertility and mild male factor.
This study was conducted in zagazig university hospital (cytogenetic unit) on 150 patients suffering from either unexplained infertility or mild male by certain criteria.
The patients were classified into two groups:
*Group І: consisted of 75 patients who received 100mg clomiphene citrate starting day 3 to day7for ovulation induction only.
*Group П: consisted of 75 patients who received 100mg clomiphene citrate starting day 3-7 in addition to subcutaneous injection of 100IUhCG daily starting from leading follicle reaches 12mm.
