Abstract

The present thesis includes preparation, characterization and structural change of two prepared systems. The first system concern: ”The effect of Cobalt Chloride and Lithium Bromide mixed filler on the physical, structural and optical properties of Polyethyl methacrylate (PEMA) films”, while the second devoted for: ”The effect of Cobalt Chloride and Lithum Bromide mixed filler on the physical, structural and optical properties of Polyethyl methacrylate (PEMA)/ Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) blend films” .
Different techniques had been used to investigate both systems:
X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy and Ultraviolet and visible (UV-Vis.) spectroscopy for structural properties. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) for thermal properties. DC electrical conductivity for electrical properties. and Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) for surface morphology detection.
XRD results demonstrated the presence of an amorphous feature. In FT-IR study, most characteristic bands of the used materials appeared. UV-Vis. analysis revealed that values of the optical energy gap are decreased with increasing the concentration of the mixed filler. This means that there are charge transfer complexes arose between the polymeric material and metals-ions.
DSC thermographs of the host material shows improve the thermal stability. DC electrical conductivity study showed that the conductivity has been increased with increasing the filler content. SEM micrographs confirms the interaction and complexation between the polymeric material and mixed filler. These results suggest that these two systems can be used in some applications like lithium batteries and this is the main purpose of this thesis.
