Abstract

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of curing systems of provisional restorations on marginal accuracy, microleakage and fracture resistance, using dual and auto polymerized composite provisional restorations. In this study, fifty human mandibular second premolar teeth were used. The marginal discrepancy was assessed by stereomicroscope. Microleakage was assessed by dye penetration method and evaluated using stereomicroscope with and without thermocycling. Fracture resistance was also evaluated by using a universal testing machine with and without thermocycling. The results of the fracture resistance revealed that there was a statistically significant difference between dual and self curing composite provisional restorations; the dual curing composite was more resistant to fracture. No significant difference between dual and self curing composite provisional restoration when tested for microleakage and marginal integrity. Conclusion: Dual cured composite provisional restorations were superior to self cured composite provisional restorations.
