Abstract

The aim of this study is to evaluate the potency of the different local anesthetics: Levobupivacine, Ropivacaine and Bupivacine for epidural analgesia during labor, and their effects on both the mother and the fetus.
Conclusion:
1- The three drugs Levobupivacine, Ropivacaine and Bupivacine in concentration of 0.2% combined with fentanyl 50mg are equipotent providing indistinguishable epidural analgesia for labor as regards onset, duration, volume of local anesthetics required, sensory level and motor block.
2- Epidural Levobupivacine 0.2%, Ropivacaine 0.2%, and Bupivacine 0.2% had no detrimental effects on fetal blood flow as measured by color Doppler Velocimetry at umbilical artery and middle cerebral artery or detrimental effects on neonates as measured by Apgar score, and PH.
Recommendations:
1- 1- The present study recommend the usage of epidural analgesia during labor as it has not any detrimental effects on mother, fetus or neonate.
2- The present study recommended the usage of low concentrations of local anesthetics in epidural analgesia during labor to minimize the motor block and side effects.
